Habitat for Humanity of NCC raised funding, recruited volunteers, and raised awareness of the Women Build Week through its “Red, White & Build” event—a wine tasting and silent auction held at the Brantwyn in Wilmington. The weather was beautiful, as was the venue, which was full of 105 items to be auctioned off. The auction featured over $25,000 worth of items, as well as live music, food, and wine tasting. $1 of every bottle sold was donated by the seller to Women Build. Ultimately, the event raised $12,676. Popular auction items included a penthouse stay at La Siesta in St. Maarten, a Marin Bobcat trail bike, and a Nintendo Wii. “Red, White & Build” was organized by the all-volunteer Women Build Steering Committee, which included: Alexine Cloonan, Amy Shew, Carmel Anerino, Shakti Harris, Carol Ohm, Marie Vacca, Jamie Hershey, Julie Bierlein, Amanda Mattei, Shadi Hamzavy, Sally Reis, Mary Arrow-Clarke, Diana Warth, Heidi Gurdo, Chelsea Collins, Amy Reed, and Janet Sharpless Pippert.
