HFHNCC Launches Speakers Bureau To Spread Habitat Mission and News in New Castle County Last month, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County Kevin L. Smith announced the official formation of HFHNCC’s speakers bureau. The mission of the speakers bureau is three-fold: to communicate Habitat’s mission of eradicating sub-standard housing in New Castle County, educate would-be supporters about how they can help Habitat achieve their goals and to clarify common misconceptions about Habitat. Since becoming an affiliate in 1986, Habitat has built and sold over 175 homes in New Castle County, from Wilmington to New Castle and Middletown.
“We’ve been fortunate to have been invited to talk about the mission of Habitat and the need for affordable housing in New Castle County at hundreds of meetings and gatherings every year,” said Smith. “This is a natural progression for us to make it more convenient for groups who invite us to speak about the good work that Habitat is doing in their community and how they can get involved.” Organizations can request a Habitat representative to speak at their meeting from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. Areas of expertise Habitat speakers can offer include construction, development and fundraising, volunteering, marketing and communications as well as executive leaders and board members. Groups can also invite current partner homeowners to speak at their functions as well. Smith impressed the fact that “it’s important to be proactive and reach out to the different communities that have been supportive Habitat as well as tap into other groups who are interested about Habitat, but haven’t partnered with us yet.”
