Giving Tuesday 2023

Doris Scott moved into her Habitat home in 2005 with her four children (Faith, Bianca, Derek, and Dorisha).  Since qualifying as a homeowner, completing her financial literacy classes and sweat equity hours, and settling on her new home, Doris has celebrated many milestones including her oldest daughter becoming a Habitat homeowner and one of her youngest daughters, Faith, graduating from high school.  Doris can remember back in 2005 when an excited 2-year-old Faith said that Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County has become family.  Fast forward 16 years as Faith walks across that stage at graduation, reflecting on her accomplishments since growing up in a stable, affordable home.  These accomplishments include being inducted into the National Honor Society, getting accepted to 26 colleges, earning 1950 on her SATs, and accepting a full-ride scholarship to the University of Delaware.  Doris was even able to go back to school to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from Springfield College while working a full-time job.  Because Habitat said yes to Doris and her family, they were able to say yes to themselves too.
