In addition to the five homes it will build along the 800 block of Bennett Street on Wilmington’s East Side called Amala Way, Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County today joined with Mayor Mike Purzycki to announce that it will add to that original project by completing seven additional homes across the street, which were begun in 2015 but left unfinished last year by the Wilmington Housing Partnership (WHP).
Twelve new homes will be built on both sides of Bennett Street on Wilmington’s East Side, continuing a pattern of revitalization in the area led by Habitat for Humanity and the City of Wilmington.
Ground was broken for five of the homes Friday morning. Across the street, seven more units are partially completed. They were started in 2015 but not completed by the Wilmington Housing Partnership.

Late last month, Habitat for Humaity dedicated three homes in Middletown, welcoming three women as new Habitat homeowners.
The recent government shutdown has demonstrated not only the concern citizens have for their fellow citizens who work for the federal government, but also just how close to the edge of homelessness most of us are if we miss two or more paychecks.
Mission: Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Established in 1986, Habitat NCC has completed more than 200 homes and ranks among the top three Habitat northeast affiliates (of 210 affiliates from Delaware to Maine) in terms of housing production.
