Families all across the United States are paying too high a price to cover the cost of home. Rent and homeownership costs are skyrocketing, while wages are not keeping pace. Far too often, families struggle to make ends meet. Families are having to choose between a safe home, nutritious food, health care, access to good schools, reliable transportation, and other necessities. Which would you choose?

Your home shouldn’t cost you anywhere near half your paycheck.

Home shouldn’t cost you your health. Home shouldn’t cost you your kids’ education.

When the cost of home is your family’s future, the cost is too high.

When the cost of home is any family’s future, that’s something none of us can afford.

Everyone deserves to build the foundation for a strong, healthy future for themselves and their families

— no matter where they live or how much money they earn. Every family deserves the chance to thrive.

Help us make that possible. Help us make the #CostOfHome something we all can afford.

Black households continue to be the most affected by these housing challenges

  • In the second quarter of 2021, the Census Bureau reported that Black households had the lowest homeownership rate at 44%, nearly 30 percentage points behind white households.
  • In the US, white households have a median wealth of $134,230, while Black households have a median wealth of $11,030.
  • Black homebuyers are 2.4 percent more likely than equally qualified white homebuyers to be denied an in-person appointment.
  • A little over 13% of Black home shoppers were rejected for a mortgage loan [in 2019], in contrast to 4% of Latino buyers and 5% of white shoppers.
  • Homes in majority-Black neighborhoods are undervalued by at least $48,000, compared to similar homes in other areas.

At HFHNCC, over 90% of the families we serve identify as Black.  We are taking a stand against racism and discrimination.  Join our fight by taking action below:
